Wakiso Giants turn attention to the Stanbic Uganda Cup with
a game against last season’s losing finalists Vipers at home on Tuesday in the
round of 16.
The two sides come into the game on the back of disappointing
results in what will be the third meeting this season after two league games
ended in draws.
John Ayala Luyinda has expressed the Purple Sharks’
readiness for the encounter and believes the return of Uganda Hippos players to
the team give his side a big boost.
“We are excited to be playing in a game of this magnitude,”
he told the media. “We play a very good side with a new and proven coach but we
are motivated to do well against them in front of our fans,” he added.
“For us, the onus is to produce a good performance and
hopefully a decent result to take us to the next round.”
On the team news, Ayala revealed that besides Moses Aliro
and Frank Ssebuufu, the rest of the players are available.
“Aliro needs to pass a late fitness test while Ssebuufu is a
big doubt for the game but the rest of the lads including those that played at
Afcon U-20 are available.”
The Opponents
Vipers have not won outright in the last eight games in all
competitions but having a new coach Alex Isabirye will surely motivate them.
Besides Murushid Jjuuko and Milton Karisa who are doubts,
they have a full squad to pick on.
Head to Head
It will be the second meeting in the competition after last
season’s quarter final clash which ended 2-1 in Vipers favour.
Overall, this will be the 10th meeting with
Vipers ahead with 5 wins and 5 draws.
