Ibrahim ‘Owen’ Kasule has described his move to Wakiso Giants as a big career step in his first interview as a Purple Shark.
The midfielder signed a three year deal with the club on Monday and was officially unveiled as Wakiso Giants player.
After becoming our first signing of the primary transfer window, ‘Baba Jr’ spoke to us and expressed his delight at joining the club.
Kasule, welcome to Wakiso Giants. How does it feel to become a Purple Shark?
“Thank you. I am delighted to be joining an ambitious club and I want to be part of its growth. I had a dream of playing in the premier league and achieving it with Wakiso Giants is incredible.
How easy or difficult a decision was it to join Wakiso Giants?
“It was an easy decision because I wanted to go a step higher in my career after playing in Masaza tournament and the University Football League. And I have friends playing in the top tier so they inspired me to make the decision and although there were many clubs interested, I chose Wakiso Giants easily because of its organisation.
How much do you know about Wakiso Giants as a club? Ever watched the team in action?
“I have been following the club even when they were in the Fufa Big League. Actually, i became attracted to it and at one time in my career, I wanted to play here and it has come to pass which is good.
Which players are you looking forward to playing with at the club?
“The team has quality players and I can’t wait to link up with them. It’s hard to pick out particular players but looking forward to being on the team with Hassan (Ssenyonjo), Ayub Kisaliita, Atendele, Komakech, Katende, Ndugwa, Wahab, Dazo, Mudde, Emukule and Viane.
Playing in the premier league for the first time can be challenging how ready are you to beat off that?
“I admit it will be tough but I have to stand up and face the challenge. I am strong hearted and believe in my abilities and am sure it won’t take many games before I get used.
What’s your favourite position?
“I am an attacking midfielder who can play anywhere in attacking position but am naturally a number 10.
What’s your favourite shirt number?
“10 is my magical number. My local and international idols Lionel Messi and Mike Sserumaga wear same shirt and it’s been my lucky number almost everywhere I played. That also explains why many fans refer to me as ‘Owen Baba Jr #10’.
Meanwhile, tell us the origin of the nick name ‘Owen Baba Jr #10’
“I got the name Owen from Coach Musafiri Musa at All Stars Mbiko. He had played with Owen Kasule and when he learnt that am Kasule, he just added that and all my teammates started calling me so.
For the Baba Jr, I was at London College and some of my teammates used to call me Musoga and others Baba. So I told them to call me Baba Jr.
A message to the Purple Sharks fans and what they should expect from you?
“The fans should expect even a better version of the player I have been in Masaza and University Football League who has lifted teams. I understand it will be collective responsibility with my new teammates to put up stellar performances and help the team compete for trophies.
